Must Read in 2017

Before I get to my Must Read in 2017 list (check out There's A Book for That for more info about this fun challenge) I have a thing or two to say about last year's challenge:

I didn't do fantastically on blogging my Must Read in 2016 recaps last year or, really, getting many of the books actually READ at all - 17 out of 50 (though I am in the middle of 2 more),
but I did make a list:
  Here!
and did one mid-year update:

but before I move on to the new year, I want to just highlight my VERY FAVORITES of the books I read due to MUST READ IN 2016:
Etiquette & Espionage by Gail Carriger
Ask the Passengers by A.S. King
Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater

The Girls at the Kingfisher Club by Genevieve Valentine
I Love I Hate I Miss My Sister by Amélie Sarn

The Cure for Dreaming by Cat Winters
A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab

All five star books according to me!

Here are the posters I keep in my office of ALL the books on my list with "R"s on the the titles I read:

now, ON TO 2017!

My only real guidelines for making lists each year are:

1. I can't put any on this year's list that were on last year's list (this helps keep my list to a manageable number and is less depressing then when I don't read the SAME BOOKS year after year), and
2. No books from the current year can be on this list.  For me, my Must Read lists are always about catching up with titles I missed!

I am a teen librarian, so my lists tend to skew YA, but I try to include a variety of genres and, especially, a diverse slate of authors and protagonists.  I have found after doing this several years, that I always try to put the super popular, New York Times bestselling YA novels on my list, and they are almost always not to my taste, so I went a bit more obscure this year (for the most part).

so, without further ado, here's my Must Read in 2017 list! (it's 51 titles this year.  I'm bad at brevity)
